Homemade Turtle Candy With Pecans and Caramele

Ingredients

 

1 cup pecan halves

1 cup caramel bits (or soft caramels, unwrapped)

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

1 tablespoon shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)

Sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

 

Prep pecans: Arrange pecan halves in clusters of 3-4 on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Melt caramel: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt caramel bits in 30-second increments, stirring until smooth.

Form turtles: Spoon a small amount of caramel over each pecan cluster. Let set slightly.

Add chocolate: Melt chocolate chips with shortening (if using). Spoon over caramel.

Top & chill: Sprinkle with sea salt if desired. Chill until set.

Tips

 

Use quality caramel: For best flavor, use soft caramels or make your own caramel.

Chill quickly: Speed up setting with the fridge.
